The Colony prototype launch


The game is live in a prototype phase!
This Project was to see if I could solo make a game in 2 weeks while not disrupting my work life balance. I think I have achieved that and really want to keep going. You will see more from me!

The Final stretch

Getting to the final stretch was a bit of a slog, getting all the elements in place and the UI elements to go along with it.

The last day of my holiday to Adelaide my partner and me were very hungover and slightly sick so we spent it mostly in the hotel room, and for me that meant I could get a few of the things I had written down in my sketchbook into the game and to the quality I had done.

Finally I spent all of saturday on polish, and its just as boring as it sounds. All of the things past Rob said "I'll fix that later" had to be fixed and can i say i hate past Rob. I had to add all the tooltips and adjust the tooltip code so it could actually be expandable, I had to remake all the elements I did a bad job on the first time around, and I had to change a few of the calculations around to at least make it look like I'm making things reusable.

I actually finished a day early and decided to pull in the tutorial mode to give the game an intro that I had written up in my sketchbook while on the River Torrens.

Then I created a Event class to manage the events in a semi-expandable way (in the future I will want to edit the editor so it doesn't look this ugly). This means when I look at making branching stories in the future I already layed the groundwork here so i have to rewrite less. And the best part about this code was it just worked... I wrote it in one big block (bad Robert) and just ran it.

Now what?

Now that the prototype is live and enough people have seen it and said there is something here I'm going to add new content and ideas and stories.

my next update is in 2 weeks and I'm going to spend that time to figure out my ideas into a list of updates i want to bring into the game.
for the next two weeks im going to use the empty space to create an animation of the colony so you have a feeling for it. I also want to add a heap of new content into the game to give the colony a feeling of self dependance from earth as they start to land on their feet.
